Project Spotlight

Shanti Morada

The old house now served as a pivot to grip both projecting Guest-room blocks, each perpendicular to each other. Block A, with 8 rooms on two levels, was aligned parallel to the street, which effectively blocked off the inner plaza from the street. Block B, with 12 rooms on two levels, was aligned perpendicular to the street, and was divided into three blocks at three different levels, linked to each other with a series of
steps & ramps.

The resort boasts of individually themed 16 Luxury Rooms with names like Indus, Ganga, Saraswati, Yamuna, Alphonso, Cinnamon, Bombay Masala, Kaju, Lotus, Marigold, Kokum, Cardamom, Anise, Mandos, Pescador & Bollywood. 4 Premium rooms complete the bouquet of room options offered, and are named Cauvery, Mandovi, Saffron, Turmeric.

Few rooms have a small Romeo-Juliet style balcony attached to each of them, affording a sidelong glance
into the inner plaza. All other rooms have a large verandah at the pool level, and upper level rooms have a large balcony to sit out, adequately covered with a deep projecting roofline.

Bathrooms in each Guest-room are accessible through a diagonally placed door, and period styled fixtures, especially claw foot brass bath tubs, are provided with the latest LED lighting and smart modern faucets.
Beyond the ubiquitous Sample room that we helped with, all interiors were dealt with her impeccable taste
by Sanjana Verma. Every bedroom has its own uniquely styled furniture, be it a four-poster bed, or a
wooden throne chair, or a Macau style planters bed. The Old House was designated as the Reception lobby
and Restaurant, The Lantern, with a partial vista of theInner Plaza. An open kitchen served as both a display
kitchen with tandoor, as well as a buffet counter.

The restaurant can accommodate 40 pax. A small pulpit looking into the reception provides a much sought after photo-op. The original high sloping roofs provide an insight into the history of the old house. The original decaying roof was taken off and a metal frame roof with cement boards was fitted, and covered with glazed concrete roofing tiles, mimicking the old clay tiles. Crystal chandeliers hanging from the high rafters add a grand touch. The lower areas of the Block B were converted into the state of the art equipped kitchen, stores, back office and included a small conference room for 50 persons. Both Blocks are connected with the single passenger elevator, and a lavish lobby, loaded with an assortment of antique furniture pieces and sculptures.
